The Santa Ana Unified School District will celebrate the opening of its newest elementary school today. The ceremony at George Washington Carver Elementary School, 1401 W. Santa Ana Blvd.,
begins at 5:30 p.m. and will feature student entertainment and a performance by a drill team, district spokeswoman Diane Thomas said. The new campus, which has been open since Feb. 10 and
serves 825 students, is intended to alleviate crowding at Wilson, Fremont and Lincoln elementary schools. The 3.7-acre school includes 19 classrooms, two kindergarten areas, a media center
and administrative offices totaling 32,800 square feet. Carver is one of 11 new schools that the district must build in the next five years to keep pace with its student enrollment increases
of 1,000 pupils each year. The district now serves about 48,000 students. MORE TO READ
