Calling Marilyn: A Manhattan synagogue Monday barred a group from using its premises to conjure up the ghost of Marilyn Monroe, saying, “We don’t do seances.” A literary group called Beaux
Arts apparently used the Brotherhood Synagogue a year ago for a seance with Monroe, but officials said they didn’t realize it until they read a report in the papers that the group had booked
space in the temple again and would attempt to make contact with the star. “The concept of a seance is not acceptable in respect to Judaism,” the synagogue’s executive director said. “It’s
irrelevant who they wish to contact.” Monroe converted to Judaism during her marriage to playwright Arthur Miller.
