The Moorpark City Council on Wednesday voiced strong concern about a landfill and recreation center proposed for the outskirts of the city but postponed any formal recommendation on the
project. Simi Valley contractor C. A. Rasmussen Inc. wants to build the project about five miles north of the intersection of the Moorpark and Simi Valley freeways, within the jurisdiction
of the County Board of Supervisors. The county, however, has asked the Moorpark council for its recommendation since the property is within the city’s so-called sphere of influence. The
council decided to delay a recommendation until Rasmussen formally applies for a building permit. Moorpark city officials plan to attend a county meeting on the development next week. The
project would include a landfill for non-hazardous solid waste and a sportsman’s center with tennis courts, golf driving range, and shooting and archery ranges. The center would also house a
restaurant, swimming pool and children’s game room. Councilman John Wozniak said several residents have called him with concerns about the project. Traffic would significantly effect
Moorpark, he said. In addition, the county must examine the effects of the development on the neighboring Happy Camp Regional Park, Wozniak said. MORE TO READ
