Santa Monica College leads California community colleges in transfers to University of California campuses. In 1988-89, Santa Monica College transferred 508 students to UC campuses. That
figure represents an increase of 7.1% over the previous year. Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill followed in terms of UC transfers, with Santa Barbara City College ranking third,
according to a report recently released by the California Postsecondary Education Commission. “The transfer figures are indicators of the quality of the work we do,” said Marty Stiles, dean
of matriculation and counseling at SMC. “Transfer placement to the University of California is the most difficult transfer in California. In addition, our students do well once they get
