The Whittier City Council has voted unanimously to prohibit right turns during morning rush hours from Colima Road onto three residential streets just north of Whittier Boulevard. Residents
of El Soneto, La Calma and Carretera drives protested that motorists were using their streets as a shortcut on workday mornings and evenings to avoid congestion at the intersection of
Whittier Boulevard and Colima Road. By the city’s own count, as many as 1,000 cars a day take that shortcut, resulting in bumper-to-bumper traffic in a residential neighborhoods. The council
voted unanimously to impose the right-turn ban between 6 and 9 a.m. Monday through Friday. City officials hope the action also will discourage drivers from using those streets during
