CARSON CITY, Nev., — Gamblers lost $3.2 billion in Nevada casinos in the last fiscal year, 7.9% more than the previous year, the state Gaming Control Board reported.
“We’re back to a normal growth pattern,” Harlen Elges, chief of administration for the board, said Friday. He said that in the early 1980s, the casinos had experienced major reductions in
revenue.
Clark County, with its casinos on the “Strip” and in downtown Las Vegas, carried the state with winnings of $2.1 billion, up 10.4% from the previous year despite a four-month hotel strike in
Las Vegas.
Washoe County, which has casinos in Reno and North Lake Tahoe, recorded winnings of $642.5 million, up 2.3%; Carson City clubs had gross revenue of $39.3 million, up 3.1%, and Douglas
County, with most of its casinos at South Lake Tahoe, had a 3.5% growth to $288.6 million.
