A shocking twist in the death of a Queensland man has been alleged by police after a woman was charged with his murder.

Stephen John Berka, 62, was struck by a car while walking along Stringybark Rd in Buderim close to 2am on May 16 last year.

He suffered critical injuries and later died at Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

After extensive investigations into the crash, police charged Ashleigh Jayde Gyorosi with his murder on Thursday.

Police will allege Ms Gyorosi, 29, stabbed Mr Berka before he was struck by the vehicle.

Ms Gyorosi briefly appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday and will reappear on May 21.
