Amazon Prime Video has just added a critically acclaimed thriller by the writer of 28 Days Later, that left fans 'gobsmacked.' Originally released in the UK in 2015, Ex Machina
boasts impressive accolades, including an Oscar award for Best Visual Effects and a nomination for the Best Original Screenplay prize. It also won over audiences, who gave it an 86% rating
on the movie review website Rotten Tomatoes. At its helm was English screenwriter and director Alex Garland, who also penned last year's hit action thriller Civil War. Garland is
additionally known for writing Annihilation and Never Let Me Go. Similar to the filmmaker's other works, the 2015 feature delves into poignant social issues. It follows Caleb, a
computer programmer who is invited to spend a week at the home of his firm's CEO. When he arrives, the eager employee is tasked with testing the intelligence and consciousness of a
female robot named Ava. Caleb soon learns that Ava is more aware than he expected, leading the film to a thrilling 90 minutes and a raved-about twist ending. Beyond its central storyline,
the drama delves into the ethics of building artificial intelligence. Ex Machina stars Domhnall Gleeson as Caleb, alongside Oscar Isaac as the CEO and Alicia Vikander as Ava. Following its
premiere, fans were convinced the sci-fi drama was an instant classic, with one IMDB user stating: "One of the best films ever made..." The moviegoer elaborated, saying: "Just
saw the film and [I] am still gob-smacked, so this review may not be as clear as some of my earlier ones. "Wow. As far as AI goes, this is the film that Spielberg wishes he would have
made. It covers the same weighty questions but in a way that grabs the viewer by the throat and doesn't let go until the very end," they concluded. Another eager moviegoer echoed
the review and penned: "Ex Machina is easily one of the greatest movies to ever tackle the ideas of artificial intelligence. Everything about the movie is put together in an elegant and
intelligent way, the movie tackles the ideas in a mature way. There are no elaborate human vs machine fight scenes or military overlord presence, instead Machina focuses on the ethical
questions that come from 'creating life'." Meanwhile, a third praised Garland's directorial debut, writing: "Nail bitingly tense, terse and most importantly thought
provoking, well renowned British screenwriter and author turned director Alex Garland's incredibly competent feature debut is one of modern cinemas most memorable and original
Sci-Fi's, a film that you sense will be oft discussed in years to come thanks to its wealth of questions asked and a heralding in of the era of young actress Alicia Vikander." A
final film fan shared a review in 2022, and questioned how they had missed out on the thriller. "It's one of the best films I've seen in the last ten years. I can't
believe I've been missing out all this time. If you haven't seen it, watch it. It's an all time classic," they said. EX MACHINA IS STREAMING NOW ON AMAZON PRIME VIDEO.
