A 42-year-old man has died following a crash on the A19 which brought the road to a standstill. Emergency crews, including the air ambulance, were called to the northbound carriageway of the
A19, near Castle Eden, just north of Hartlepool, at 6.45am on Thursday, June 5. The crash involved a Land Rover and a HGV. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. A
spokesperson for Durham Police said: "A man has sadly died following a road traffic collision on the A19 this morning. Police were called to reports of a collision between a Land Rover
and a wagon on the northbound carriageway, near Castle Eden, just after 6.45am. "The driver of the Land Rover – a 42-year-old man - suffered serious injuries and despite the best
efforts of the emergency services, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been notified and are being supported by specialist officers. The northbound carriageway remains
closed and drivers are asked to find an alternative route." A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 6.41am on Thursday, June 5, to reports of a
road traffic incident on the A19 southbound near Peterlee. We dispatched an ambulance crew, an advanced practitioner paramedic, a clinical team leader, a specialist paramedic, and requested
