The dispersal of the entire milking portion of the Moree herd of Messrs Bertie Kelso and Sons on 2 May looks set to produce some strong trade.   _Over many years the Moree Herd has built a


reputation for breeding highly profitable, long lived cows, exceptionally high in components. _ _ _ _Not forgetting about the importance of sound functional type, where the herd currently


averages in excess of 86 points, the conscious effort for many years has been to focus towards breeding for ‘health traits’ and ‘components’. _ _ _ _The herd currently averages 9,550kg at


4.48% BF and 3.38 PR on twice a day milking. _   Among the 220 in-milk cows and heifers up for grabs at the farm sale near Dungannon in Co Tyrone, is Moree Mascol Marq 1 – the highest


scoring Mascol daughter in the world. She is classified (EX93-2E) with an amazing (EX96) mammary system.   Speaking after the recent classification Bertie Kelso remarked that Mascol Marq I


was the type of cow they had aimed to breed at Moree.  “She is not extreme in size-she’s a medium cow with a wide rump, a superb udder and great dairy strength .  She also combines excellent


fertility with huge components.”   Mascol Marq I completed her third lactation at 10,396kg,  5.38% BF and 3.72% PR on twice a day milking and is currently yielding 38kg at 5.16% BF  and


3.96% PR having calved in December. She is set to sell in the dispersal sale along with her (VG) Toystory daughter and (VG87) Bolton maternal sister.   _There will also be 10 choice heifer


calves and 10 service age bulls up for sale._ _ _ _A considerable number of bulls have tested exceptionally well on RZG, being the profitability measure used in Germany with several going


into European AI studs. _ _ _ _One example is ‘Logy Bear’ which tested with an RZG of 149 making him the third highest son of Oman Logan tested in Europe. His dam Shottle Belle sells,


heralding from the renowned “Southland Belle” cow family. _ _ _ _The sale also includes a sister to the legendary Braedale Goldwyn bull, she sells along with many family members. _ _ _
