Google Maps Street View caught the missing limbs in the middle of a field. All that can be seen on the bench is one arm and one leg, clad in a T-shirt, blue jeans and brown brogues. They are
spotted in the middle of nowhere on a wooden bench in a very confusing tableau. But is it really what it seems? Thankfully the limbs are nothing more than an optical illusion thanks to a
camera glitch. The Google Maps camera takes multiple images which it later stitches together. This creates the seamless effect when exploring Google Maps and the locations. Sometimes, if an
object is moving, it can create problems for the camera. This then results in spliced images or people merged together or cut in half. In the images, the man's head and body are missing
as he appeared to be sitting innocently. Next to him is a Hiking Club sign and underneath it a "password" which reads "Sundew". The signs are actually part of the
Minnesota State Parks, which are organised with a specific trail to follow. It is hardly the first time a similar optical illusion of solitary limbs have been spotted. A young woman seemed
to be missing part of her body while shopping in Dubai. Google Maps Street View was created in 2007, two years after Google Maps. Originally just in a number of US cities, it has since
expanded to include millions of locations around the world. Vehicles such as cars and bikes are used with 360 degree cameras to take hundreds of images of the region. The end result allows
online users to search for an address or plan their route. The latest locations to be mapped include Japan and the North Sea although many locations are still to be mapped, such the
Caribbean, Central America and even Germany and Austria.
