Liverpool have reasserted themselves as Premier League title contenders after their win over Tottenham in north London. That is the verdict from Rio Ferdinand, who watched the game in the BT
Sport studio. Sadio Mane was in fine form as Jose Mourinho's men were downed at home. Liverpool ended their five-match winless streak in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over
Tottenham in north London. In an entertaining clash, that saw two goals ruled out by VAR, the visitors opened the scoring on the cusp of half-time. Sadio Mane, who was excellent all night,
squared the ball to Roberto Firmino to tap into an empty net, and two minutes after the break Trent Alexander-Arnold doubled the scores. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg grabbed one back for Spurs
right back with an incredible strike to beat Alisson. However, Mane wrapped the game up after an hour had played to give Liverpool the three points. It was a missed opportunity for
Tottenham, who could have leapfrogged the Reds into the top four. But for Liverpool, it was a much-needed win after a turbulent few weeks that has seen the Manchester clubs wrestle control
of the title race. And speaking on BT Sport, ex-Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes that Klopp's side have reannounced themselves in the Premier League. He said: "I think
Liverpool definitely needed this result. Everybody's been on their case. Is their season over in terms of challenging? I think they've answered that emphatically tonight.
"Yes they were given some gifts tonight but you've got to be there to take them. Liverpool are going to be there or thereabouts. "This strikeforce, yes they've had a bit
of a blip in their form in front of goal but, these guys are seasoned in knowing how to be around the top of the league. They are going to be a force. "Yes they're missing main
cogs in the backline but when you've got these types of strikers gaining confidence from this you're always going to be in with a chance." Speaking after the match, Klopp
summarised the match by admitting a sense of relief. He said: “It was good, it was necessary and it was a good moment to show it. We are still here and that's good to know."
