England got their World Cup campaign off to a winning start. But it came with a second half stutter that nearly cost them two points. England led through Nikita Paris and Ellen White after
40 minutes. But things got sloppy after the break and the Lionesses took their foot off the pedal. That allowed Claire Emslie to give them a nervy final 10 minutes when she pulled one back
late on. England did hold out but Neville claims they need to be tighter if they are to better their third place finish from four years ago in Canada. “I was pleased with the result – but we
set certain standards and the players know we need to keep meeting them,” Neville said. “We cannot drop below those standards. If we do, we get second-half performances like that. I want us
to play like we did in the first-half for 90 minutes. “We didn't pass the ball as well as we should have done and we didn't see out the game. We needed that third goal. “The
lesson is for us that every World Cup game is going to be difficult. We thought it was going to be easy in the second-half. “We had played with no fear in the first-half. The players were so
relaxed in our pre-match meeting. You could smell it. “And when we play like we did for the first 60 minutes, we are a good team.” Neville has called on his players to be relentless as they
bid for glory, starting with Argentina on Friday. “We must be relentless now,” he said. “We want to be here for the next 37 days and to do that every single one of us needs to keep driving
our standards all of the time.” Alex Scott, former England right-back was critical of the display, and thinks things need to get better in the next two weeks. "Teams will be looking at
this and will they be worried about this England performance? I don't think so," said Scott, who played at three World Cups.
