While some fans are obsessed with finding out who the true killer of Tara Collins is, others have been busy wondering about the name of one of the characters. David Collins’ (played by Lee

Ingleby) has had a rough time throughout his seven year imprisonment, and the subsequent abuse he has received since his release. However one person has always been there for him through

thick-and-thin: his brother, Phil Collins (Daniel Ryan). Despite the character’s good nature, viewers began wondering why he had been named after the legendary Genesis drummer and singer

songwriter. Phil’s actor Daniel recently spoke to press including Express.co.uk where he gave the surprising story behind the name, and what secret influence it had on his performance. While

fans have been theorising that the name may be seen as a double meaning for something coming in the later episode of the show, Daniel revealed the truth. “He did have a different name at

one point,” he said. “I think he started as Phil Collins and someone said to Chris [Lang, writer], ‘You do know he’s called Phil Collins?’ “He obviously started with David Collins and said,

‘I’m going to call his brother Phil.’ “And then, maybe, he didn’t think about what his surname was.” Daniel then added: “It did change to something else - Colia. Phil Colia. “And then it

went back to Phil Collins.” What’s more, Daniel then used this odd decision to build upon his creepy character. He explained: “I was thinking about the character, and there’s some sort of

innate sadness in [him]. “And I was imagining: If you had been at school at the time when Phil Collins wasn’t fashionable anymore - and you had to bear that. “So I actually found it useful,”

he laughed. “You have to make something of these things don’t you?” But despite knowing the true mistake behind the name, Daniel also admitted that he “may have done the odd drum-solo

through filming”. Although Daniel has been playing innocent with his character, could he be up to something? Fans have convinced themselves that David’s sister-in-law Alice Moffat (Hermione

Norris) is the real murderer, after it was revealed in last night’s episode that she wanted money from the deceased Tara. _INNOCENT CONTINUES TONIGHT AT 9PM ON ITV._
