The BBC comedy stars its writers Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith as well as some big names, who make guest appearances in each episode. But the appearance a special “background
artist” has got fans talking. A silver statue of a hare has appeared in all four series of the show. However, tonight’s episode will feature the hare as more than just an object in the
background. The episode, titled Tempting Fate, finds three council contractors clearing out the flat of a dead hoarder. The plot revolves around the metallic hare, which fans will have
subliminally seen in all 24 episodes. Reece and Steve made the decision to place a common prop in the background as a secret in-joke for eagle-eyed fans. The ornament connects every story
and even has viewers rushing to social media each week to point out the hare. Steve previously explained: “Because each episode is so wildly different, there was nothing really linking them
other than the fact they were all inside a number nine. “We just thought it would be nice to have an object that you could hide and just have there on every set. “It’s just fun, there’s no
real thing behind it.” The Telegraph reported that producer Adam Tandy insisted selecting the hare was just coincidence. He said: “We had a cardboard box of about a dozen props and Steve
just picked up that.” Reece added: “Sometimes, a character pulls out a photograph of themselves and it's behind them in the snap. “It's a nice little game we play.” It comes after
