“He was an anchor for all the contestants, and yet was a ferocious competitor. He had massive fingers yet was able to be so delicate when it came to his presentation.”


Sadly, Phil’s fellow rugby colleague Neil Back, who competed in the current series of the show, was not so successful, getting eliminated in the semi-finals.


Gregg says he’d love to keep the rugby stars coming thick and fast, however.


“My ideal celebrity contestant would be James Haskell,” Gregg said, referring to 31-year-old English rugby union player who currently plays for and captains the Wasps. “I am a massive fan of


rugby. I like it when the lads come on the show.”


The final of Celebrity MasterChef 2016 airs tonight at 8:30pm on BBC One.
