Game of Thrones left viewers completely stunned in the final episodes of the show earlier this year. Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) found himself between a rock and hard place in Game of

Thrones’ last season. After fighting for the forces of good for the past few seasons, he was eventually forced to decide whether to kill his queen, lover, and aunt Daenerys Targaryen

(Emilia Clarke) or to let her continue killing innocent people. Eventually he decided to end her reign of terror - and although he certainly went down in history as the person who killed the

final Targaryen, viewers were expecting him to claim the title of The Prince that was Promised. The Prince that was Promised prophecy foretold of a righteous warrior who would defeat the

forces of evil, unite the people of Westeros, and become king of the land. This didn’t exactly happen, and viewers were expecting Jon to become a warrior with incredible powers, and take the

Throne as the rightful Targaryen heir. However, one fan has pointed out Jon could still be the Prince that was Promised but with a twist. Reddit user fanrarkforpresident recently pointed

out that, although Jon didn’t become a being a divine power, nor take the throne, he did unite the people. The user wrote: “[Jon] brought everybody together, that was the prophecy and his

mission. The Prince, never the King.” Another fan of the show concurred: “This is the real answer. First of all, prophesies in Martin's universe never mean exactly what people think

they mean. _READ MORE: GAME OF THRONES: SEASON EIGHT SCRIPT UNCOVERS SECRET FROM DAENERYS TARGARYEN’S FINAL MOMENT_ “You can't take it too literally. But Jon clearly managed the realm

together to fight the dead. He put all the pieces in place. So he was brought back to life for this purpose. This would make sense, as viewers witnessed Jon becoming the hero of the Game of

Thrones story, but not the new rightful king - thus fulfilling his prophecy as a prince, not a king. Meanwhile, fans of the show have also been theorising the dark forces foretold in the

Prince that was Promised prophecy was indeed referring to Daenerys and her dragons, rather than the Night King (Vladimir Furdik). Reddit user mrkrabz1991 theorised: “Does anyone feel like

the Prince That Was Promised is Jon Snow, and the ‘darkness’ that he/she was going to stop was not the Night King, but in fact Daenerys and her army? “During Daenerys’ victory speech after

the burning of Kings Landing, she talks about not only ‘freeing the people of kings landing’ (aka burning them), but freeing the rest of the world. That ‘we will not stop until we have

liberated the world’.” The fan went on to explain further: “I think the Night King was a distraction. “Danny is the true darkness that the prophecy speaks of. Aligning with ‘the Prince that

was promised’ when Jon kills her.” This obviously makes sense as Daenerys certainly amassed an enormous army, and was definitely using it to commit some atrocities within Westeros. However,

despite this huge similarity between the prophecy and Daenerys, other fans believe the mad queen was indeed the Princess that was Promised from the same prophecy. Considering her army and

dragons were essential in taking down the Night King - a huge evil force - could she have truly been the hero of legend?
