However this week was very out of character for the Gulf state, as heavy hail and thunderstorms attacked parts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), including Dubai. Uncharacteristically heavy

rainfall befell Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Al Ain and certain regions of Abu Dhabi during the day on Saturday. On Sunday evening, just a mere thirty minutes after Iftar, the practice of

breaking fast during the holy month of Ramadan, a thunderstorm was unleashed on Dubai. Furthermore, today saw clouds dominate the skyline, particularly across the country’s eastern and

western locales. However, sunshine returns to the UAE on Wednesday after heavy rain and thunderstorms lashed the country earlier this week. Moderate winds will cause blowing dust and sand on

Wednesday, according to the National Centre for Meteorology. The unprecedented rainfall earlier in the week was due to the increase of the flow of moisture in the air from the Arabian Sea.

The weather conditions will worsen as the number of clouds increase. Internal regions will experience the brunt of the bad weather, which will also extend into the coastal areas of the

state, which are at times associated with thunder and heavy rainfall. From Thursday onwards, the clouds will begin to disappear and bring with them cool, freshening but moderate winds.

People in the UAE should be more careful during the windy period, as it can lead to an increase in sand storms and circulating dust, which can hinder visibility. Rainy weather can also be a

very serious problem when driving, as it’s more difficult to spot hazard and control the car on slippery roads. For increased road safety, there are a few tips drivers should follow.
