The Welsh Labour leader hit out at a section of the Tory Party who “didn’t care if Scotland left” the union after Brexit. Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Jones said his “fear” was that
nationalists would take hold of England, Scotland and Wales and create major divisions. He said: “Nationalism is a potent force in England, bluntly. I see it in the Conservative Party,
there’s a wing of the Conservative Party that’s a flag waving nationalist wing of the Conservative Party. “Who don’t care if Scotland leave actually, or not, because for them it’s all about
England and Brexit. “My fear is that we end up in a situation where nationalism takes stronger root in Wales and in England and in Scotland and we all end up suspicious and fighting each
other. “I think that’s wrong. Now from my perspective, as the leader of Welsh Labour, I want to see a UK where our identities are respected. We’re not English in Wales, we don’t want to be
part of England, but we are British. We want to make sure that identity is respected. “Rather than pretending that everybody should be the same, acknowledge the fact that we are four
nations and strong regions in England, with strong regional identities and celebrate that and that’s what makes us British. Not one identity that’s dictated to from London.”
