The Department for Education estimates that 3.9 per cent of all pupils, or 315,000 children, were not in class on January 6, a record for this school year. Most - two per cent had Covid
themselves.
The total was up from 301,000 children on December 16. Some 4.9 per cent of teachers and school leaders were off due to the virus on January 6, compared to three per cent on December 16.The
virus also affected five per cent of teaching assistants and other staff, around 62,000 in total, on January 6.
