Ministers say that a policy of “test, track and trace” will allow the Government to effectively and safely relax some lockdown measures in certain areas, while imposing further restrictions,
if necessary, on some other areas. It will help the Government in the next phase of its plan by showing experts which areas have high and low cases of infection. The new contact-tracing
app will also alert users when they have come into contact with someone who has had coronavirus symptoms, and advise them to get tested. Mr Hancock said on Friday that the app will form a
large part of the Government’s “next mission” of easing lockdown.
