The band announced they are to perform at the famous music festival this summer after they were named best international band at the NME Awards. In a recorded video message, Foo Fighters
frontman Dave Grohl told the audience at Brixton Academy in south London they were returning to the UK to play Glastonbury - the first major act announced for this year's event.
Festival organiser Emily Evais has confirmed the 'Everlong' rockers, who last performed at the annual event in 1998, will take to the stage on the Friday night. Posting on Twitter
she said: "YES! "@GlastoFest: We're very pleased to confirm that @foofighters will headline the Friday of this year's Festival." The only other act confirmed so far
is Lionel Richie, who will play the Sunday afternoon 'legends' slot. He said: "I’m really excited to play Glastonbury next year as it’s one of the most iconic festivals in the
world. "It has a phenomenal history and the alumni of artists who have previously played is incredible so I’m honoured to be joining that club. It will be a really special moment for
me and I can’t wait to share it with everyone. I can now say 'Yes, I’m playing Glastonbury.'" The rest of the line-up is due to be announced in April and Glastonbury Festival
takes place June 24 – 28.
