Harry accepted a bouquet from two young sisters, Maisy and Gracie Oxby, who were leaving flowers for Diana at the Palace gates. Their mother Rhian Oxby had taken them to a Princess Diana
exhibition at Kensington Palace to explain the legacy of Diana, who died long before they were born. She told the Daily Express: “Diana was a lovely lady, always good to people. This shows
that she is still an important figure 20 years on, so it is nice to be part of her memory.” Diana was beloved for her warmth and many Britons felt as though she was one of them as they
lived through her wedding, troubled marriage and divorce. The nation was shocked by the way the fashion icon, humanitarian figure and the most famous woman in the world died in a banal car
crash. The Princess died from fatal injuries after the car crash in Alma underpass near the Seine at about 12.22am on August 31 1997. She was pronounced dead at 4am. Her then boyfriend
Dodi Fayed, the son of Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed, and her driver Henri Paul also died in the crash. Only Princess Diana's bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, survived the crash
after the Mercedes hit the pillar while trying shake off the paparazzi chasing them. A 2008 inquest jury blamed Mr Paul and the paparazzi, who hounded her car, for “gross negligence”
leading to the unlawful death of Diana and Dodi. The inquest also found that alcohol impaired Mr Paul’s judgement, while Princess Diana and Dodi could have survived if they had worn seat
belts.
