An electrical storm delayed touch down at RAF Northolt in west London as the monarch flew back to the capital from Aberdeen. The Queen's 13-seater jet circled over the base for 15

minutes before landing on its second attempt. The monarch, 96, was travelling from Balmoral ready to join the nation's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. After landing, Queen Elizabeth II

was whisked away by car to Windsor Castle. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: "The Queen's flight was delayed due to a lightning storm, all the correct procedures were followed

and there were no safety concerns." Fans of the royals took to Twitter to praise the sovereign's bravery. Twitter user Eirlys Jones, alluding to the movie Top Gun, commented:

"Our wonderfully fearless Queen. Maverick." Fellow Twitter user Riley dog chimed in by simply tweeting: "Yikes!" To which Twitter user ReegisP tweeted: "Explains why

the Queen doesn't want the Cambridges flying together in small planes." The Queen had travelled to Balmoral last Thursday for a break in order to pace herself ahead of the busy,

four-day weekend of festivities. READ MORE ABOUT A WOMAN ON FIRE AFTER BEING DOUSED IN PETROL It will involve more than 1,500 officers and soldiers with 350 horses from the Household

flypast. In the evening, more than 3,000 beacons will be set ablaze across the UK and the Commonwealth in tribute to the Queen, with the principal Tree of Trees beacon lit up outside the

Palace. There will be no ceremonial journey to a service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral for the Queen on Friday. The monarch, if she attends, will use a different entrance

rather than scaling the venue's steps. And the Queen's planned visit to Epsom for the Derby on Saturday is off with the Princess Royal due to attend on her behalf.
