Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William are now the proud parents of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tied the knot in their
spectacular royal wedding in 2011. Kate’s wedding day look was much admired around the world, and the elegant and unobtrusive tiara she chose to wear to walk down the aisle also send subtle
message, according to a royal biographer.
Andrew Morton, in his 2011 book “William and Catherine” takes a look at the unforgettable big day.
Mr Morton writes: “The dress, which echoed the gown worn by the Duchess of York, later Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, on her wedding day in 1923, was complemented by the Cartier Halo
tiara which the Queen had loaned for the occasion.
“The tiara, made in 1936, was a gift of the then Duke of York – his limeade famous by the Oscar-winning movie The King’s Speech – to his bride three weeks before ehe succeeded his brother as
King.
“If Catherine was sending out a message, it was that she would support her husband through thick and thin, just as the new Queen Elizabeth had done when her stammering husband took his first
tremulous steps as King George VI.”

He adds: “A sign, too that her family would be an integral part of her new life was perhaps demonstrated by the fact that she wore diamond-set stylised oak-leaf earrings, based on the
Middleton family’s new coat of arms, which her parents gave her for her wedding day.”
The Cartier Halo tiara is platinum and is made with 1,000 diamonds.
It was an anniversary present from the Duke of York to the Queen Mother, who then passed it on to Queen Elizabeth II on her 18th birthday.
Princess Anne wore the tiara in the early Seventies, which was last time it was seen in public before the royal wedding in 2011.
The delicate diamond scrolls of the tiara chime in perfectly with the diamond scroll of Kate’s wedding earrings, too.
Since her wedding, the Duchess of Cambridge has graduated on to larger tiaras and a favourite appears to be the Cambridge Lovers’ Knot tiara – which William’s mother Princess Diana also
favoured.
Kate took inspiration from the beautiful royal bride Grace Kelly on her wedding day, too.
Not only was Kate’s stunning wedding dress very similar to that worn by Princess Grace on her wedding day, the new Duchess of Cambridge also wore the same perfume.
Called “Florissimo” by Creed, it was actually made for Princess Grace by her husband Prince Rainier for their wedding day.
Speaking in 2016 documentary “William and Kate: The Journey”, royal expert Ashley Pearson said: “Kate wanted to remind the world that this has been done before, a commoner marrying a future
king.”
In her May 2018 royal wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle wore the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau Tiara, which had not been seen worn since the Fifties.
The gorgeous Art Deco tiara was made in 1932 and can be set with a sapphire in the centre as an alternative to the diamond that Meghan chose.
The emerald tiara worn by Princess Eugenie on her royal wedding day is the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara, which dates from 1919.
