In a revealing interview, Prince Andrew speaks of how the pair were “very good friends” and describes how their blossoming romance began. He said: “It was at lunch we were made to sit next
to each other at Ascot. “It started from there.” The Duke of York also revealed that in 1985 a year before the marriage, that was when he knew the relationship was the real thing. He said:
“Probably the end of last year, before Christmas perhaps and then it carried on from their, after Christmas at Sandringham and beyond that. “There are always humble beginnings it has got to
start somewhere.” Prince Andrew also spoke of the Queen’s “overjoyed” reaction to the news. Their couple married in 1986 and their whirlwind relationship lasted just seven years before
separating and they officially divorced in 1996. The pair were back in the public spotlight earlier this month for the wedding of the youngest daughter Princess Eugenie. Eugenie, 28, married
Jack Brooksbank in St Georges chapel in the second royal wedding of the year. The Duchess of York wore an emerald green dress and gold and green hat, remains one of the most popular figures
amongst royal fans. Their public appearance together on October 12 sparked reports they would be getting back together after over 20 years apart, after a string of appearances including
horseriding around the grounds of Windsor.
