Prime Minister Theresa May has refused to resign and instead announced plans to form a minority government with support from Northern Ireland’s DUP. But many Britons worry that there could
soon be yet another election because her position is so severely weakened. Minority governments are notoriously unstable and tend to be short-lived because the ruling party risks defeat on
key votes in the Commons. The first test for Mrs May is whether she will get enough support for the Queen’s Speech, which will set out her programme for the country. If opposition parties
vote down a Queen’s Speech, the UK could be forced to hold another general election. Althought Labour has ruled out going into a coalition, Jeremy Corbyn might get the chance to try and
form a minority government. Another general election will be called if the Conservatives and Labour both fail to establish a government.
