Tongue cancer could be spotted by checking your tongue at the end of the day, according to This Morning’s Dr Chris Steele.
While a normal tongue is often pink, slightly rough and a bit dull, it’s important to look out for any lumps, he warned.
Lumps or ulcers could be a warning sign of cancer of the tongue.
Speak to a doctor if you spot any signs of lumps or ulcers in your tongue.
Over 50s and smokers are most at risk of the cancer, Dr Chris warned.

“Tongues can tell you a lot about various conditions around the body,” said Dr Chris.
“An ulcer on the side of the tongue could be a sign of cancer of the tongue.
“It can be an ulcer, or a lump that persisted for longer than a month.
“Over 50s or smokers, if you have lump in your mouth, get it checked.”

A sore or white tongue isn’t usually serious, and could be easily treated, said the NHS.
Using a soft toothbrush to brush your teeth could help to prevent pain.
Patients should also use a toothpaste that doesn’t contain sodium lauryl sulphate.
Painkillers could help to relieve a sore tongue in the short-term, while using a straw may make drinking easier.
Avoid eating hard, spicy or salty foods when you have a painful tongue.
A white tongue may be a warning sign of an underlying health condition.
Leukoplakia, geographic tongue and mouth ulcers could all cause white patches to appear on the tongue.
You should see a GP or dentist if you have a pain or itchiness that doesn’t go away on your tongue.
A doctor could help to find the cause of white patches on the tongue.
