Graham Elliot, 41, once weighed in at a whopping 28.5 stone, after his career as a successful celebrity chef saw him regularly feasting on his own creations. The chef is a household name in
the UA, appearing on Iron Chef, Top Chef Masters and even opening his own eponymous French restaurant. But despite his critical acclaim and award-winning cuisine, the chef faced serious
health issues due to his staggering 28.5 stone frame. Realising he needed to change his lifestyle and slim down, Graham lost an impressive eleven stone by making some easy changes to his
diet. Before changing his diet, lifestyle and embarking on his weight-loss journey, Graham was the perfect candidate for a duodenal switch, a process that limits the food intake of patients
with a BMI of over 50. The surgery was recommended to him over the usual weight-loss process, but due to his culinary career, a surgery that massively restricted eating was not possible.
Instead the 41-year-old was fitted with a gastric sleeve, allowing him to still ingest small bites of food but reducing his stomach size. Following the surgery, Graham lost almost a third of
his body weight, but not down to the gastric band alone. The celebrity chef drastically overhauled his diet, one that once saw him gorge on sugary fizzy drinks, cookies and sweets. After
losing weight at rapid speed following his gastric bypass, the challenge for the chef was to keep the weight off, and he did. Talking to the Mail Online, he said:”I now look at food as fuel
and focus on my protein intake. I'm in love with 'pure' flavours, things that are natural and delicious, minimally fussed with, that showcase the season. I combine that with
portion control.” Graham has now changed his whole outlook on eating, stripping back his diet to that of lean protein, fruits and vegetables. The father-of-three now eats dinners of chicken
and salmon with salad or vegetables and has cut out neatly all bread, pasta, sugary drinks and beer. Once admitting to eating cookies and sweets for comfort, Graham now keeps his sugar
cravings under control by snacking on fruit and cottage cheese or apple slices with peanut butter. Talking to People magazine about his cravings, the chef revealed: “Now I know my stomach is
the size of a banana and I need to have food that just gives me energy. “So I can either have a moment of sweetness but feel really bad or I can order something delicious and light like
sashimi.” Once suffering from sleep apnea, high blood pressure and cholesterol, Graham has not rid himself of his health problems, even completing the Chicago Marathon. Another celebrity
chef who faced health issues due to his weight was British TV star James Martin. Once gorging on his calorie-laden creations and even snacking on chunks of butter, James revealed his
impressive weight loss and the secret behind it.
