UPDATE THREE: PSN users have started reporting fresh problems accessing core services following an earlier outage today.

Problems are being seen in both North America and the United Kingdom, it's currently unclear what has been causing the issues.

There are no current outages listed on the PSN service status page, although this could change very quickly depending on how widespread these fresh issues appear.

Both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live have seen major outages in January, a mix of low level DDOS attacks and major system updates could be the underlying cause, although neither Sony

or Microsoft have directly confirmed causes.

PlayStation Network users have been offered one day extensions for those effected by recent outages that left many without access for up to 12 hours.

The PlayStation Network appears to be running smoothly again, although some players report they are still experiencing issues.

The official Ask PlayStation Twitter account claims that there are currently no problems with the PSN servers.

Major issues are currently being reported by players on social media, although Sony are yet to update their network status.

It is claimed that gamers are unable to log in to PSN, meaning that online services are unavailable.

The news is especially unwelcome for those hoping to play The Witness, which is available from the PlayStation Store.

If confirmed by Sony, this will be the third major disruption in recent times for PlayStation gamers.

Players over the Christmas period witnessed a ten-hour outage, although it is believed this was not related to a DDOS attack threat from a hacking group.

And earlier this month, players in UK and North America were again unable to access the PlayStation Network, although Sony have since handed out one-day extensions to PlayStation Plus and PS

Now members.
