The 46-year-old is one of the hot favourites to replace Craig as James Bond with odds of 4-1. However, the Hollywood Reporter claims that Elba is in talks to replace Smith as Deadshot in
Suicide Squad 2 aka The Suicide Squad. The 50-year-old left the project last week and now director James Gunn is looking for his replacement. Sources claim Elba met with the Guardians of the
Galaxy helmer on Friday and apparently the talks went very well. In fact, it’s alleged that Elba is the first and only choice for Warner Bros and Gunn. The Suicide Squad is set to be
released in cinemas on August 6, 2021. Now assuming Elba signs on, it’s likely that the studio will want him locked in for more than one movie. And being attached to a major movie franchise
might mean Elba’s chances of becoming the next Bond are slipping. IS BOND 25 CALLED SHATTERHAND? After all, Bond 25, Craig’s fifth and final 007 movie, is out in April 2020 and after that
producers will start searching for his replacement. But if Elba is tied into playing Deadshot – perhaps even in his own solo movie – it seems less likely he’d have time for Bond. Plus the
actor has recently revealed why he doesn’t think playing 007 is actually for him. He said: “Bond is one of the biggest franchises in the world, and for that reason, whoever ends up playing
it, lives it. Elba added: “You’re THAT character, and known as that character for many, many years. “I’m creating characters now that can still live alongside Idris. Not ones that take over
me and solely define me.” Elba feels his role in the upcoming Fast and Furious spin-off is just right for him instead. He added: “The Hobbs And Shaw character Brixton Lore is brilliant.
Awesome. I’d love to see that franchise up and running, but it wouldn’t define me.”
