Mowgli is back in a brand new adaptation directed by the inimitable Andy Serkis.

The newest version of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book, 1894, strips away Disney's animated glow in favour of a CGI and live-action hybrid as gritty as it is nuanced.

With an all-star cast, both of human and voice actors, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle is a 21st-century adaptation of a classic tale.

Here is all you need to know about the upcoming Netflix film.

Netflix's adaptation will be released on their streaming platform on December 7, 2018.

Before this, the movie will have a limited theatrical run from November 29, 2018.

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle will run in cinemas in London and New York City for those wanting to see it on the big screen.

In Brasil and South Africa, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle will be available from 2019, though when specifically has yet to be confirmed.

Netflix's official plot synopsis reads: "The story follows the upbringing of the human child Mowgli raised by a pack of wolves in the jungles of India.

"He learns the often harsh rules of the jungle, under the tutelage of a bear named Baloo and a black panther named Bagheera.

"Mowgli becomes accepted by the animals of the jungle as one of their own, except for one; the fearsome tiger Shere Khan.

"But there may be greater dangers lurking in the jungle, as Mowgli comes face to face with his human origins."
