The strength of the Commonwealth is that it represents a coming togetherof nations (Image: Getty Images)
But it is clearly asking too much of our self-centred and increasingly belligerent representatives in the House of Commons to heed her advice and act accordingly. "We are able to look to the
future with greater confidence and optimism as a result of the links that we share," the Queen says in her message for Commonwealth Day today. This comes on the back of her speech in
January referring to "respecting different points of view" and "coming together to seek out the common ground".

the people we are dealing with in Brussels, such as Donald Tusk, Jean-Claude Juncker and Michel Barnier, are behaving in a shamefully vindictive manner.

"Something must be done" is the chorus, but little changes. Young people are carrying knives and brandishing them on our streets - and they are doing so because fewer police are on patrol.
"We are at a tipping point," says Andy Cooke, chief constable of Merseyside Police. And when faced with a tipping point, emergency measures must be put in place.
That means more police, more powers of arrest, more stop and search - and less prevarication from mealy-mouthed liberals.

Mary's tongue slipONE has to be so careful not to offend in today's super-sensitive world.
But who would have thought that Mary Berry would fall out with some Italians for her pronouncing espresso as "expresso" and bruschetta as 'brooshetta?'
Frankly, we think it's nothing to get heated about. After all, we don't mind when Americans call Birmingham "Bir-min-ham".
A bit of mispronunciation is the least of our worries with our European neighbours.
