'Rapid rising costs' has forced a Harrogate pub to shut its doors for the final time.

The Shepherds Dog on Otley Road called last orders on Monday, June 2. Landlord Mike Schofield issued a statement on social media explaining why he's had to pass the keys back to the

brewery.

Mr Schofield has said he's hopeful the pub will reopen under new management soon. Posting his statement on the pub's official Facebook page, he explained why it was no longer

'sustainable' to run as a business.

He said: "It is with sadness that I have had to take the disappointing decision to close "The Shepherds Dog" from Monday, June 2.

"Unfortunately, due to rapid rising costs from many different areas the pub in its current format cannot sustain itself. I am arranging to have the keys handed back to the brewery in order

that they may find an alternative operator as quickly as possible."

Mr Schofield went onto thank his team and patrons who made the pub a 'Community Hub'. He said: "I would like to thank everyone from all team members past and present to all patrons

who all together made the pub the "The Community Hub" I always envisaged it should be.

"Hopefully the pub will be open again extremely quickly and the new operators can continue to build this great pub and fantastic Community." Punters expressed their disappointment. Mark

Sanderzon said: "Great shame good community pub, good luck to everyone in future."

Neil Hirst said: "Very sad news, and here’s hoping the brewery find new people to take over. Good luck in your future endeavours."

Andrea Sharples said: "Very sad news another great pub going good luck in the future."
