British holidaymakers are being cautioned about the potential rejection at security and Passport Control due to damaged passports, a blunder that could disrupt travel plans for many heading
towards European Union countries and other destinations. Surprisingly, research from YouGov has revealed four out of ten people with a valid passport did not realise it could be turned away
if the cover is detached or in poor condition. Rhys Jones, a travel insurance specialist at GoCompare, stated: "Unfortunately, you likely won't be covered under your travel
insurance for any costs incurred from passport problems preventing your departure. That's why it's so important to know the rules for any destination you plan to visit and to check
your passport well before you travel." Jones also advised: "You can check passport validity requirements for different countries on the UK government's foreign travel advice
page. If you're not sure if your passport will be in date, it's better to be on the safe side and renew it before you attempt to travel." It's imperative to cancel and
replace a lost or stolen passport immediately. A damaged passport, which includes issues like illegible details, torn pages, or damages to the cover, must be replaced to ensure travel
ability, as per guidelines from HM Passport Office, reports Birmingham Live. You're also at risk if the cover is detaching or there are stains on the pages, such as ink or water damage.
You can obtain a paper application form by either visiting the Post Office or phoning the Passport Adviceline. The cost is £107. Payment can be made via debit or credit card - fill in the
form in the application pack - or cheque - made payable to 'HM Passport Office'. You'll require 2 new and identical printed photos of yourself. If you're using a paper
form, you can utilise the Post Office Check and Send service. The address to post it to is provided on the form.
