A sadistic child rapist tried to tell a jury that his victim was "confused" as he lied to cover up his sickening crimes. Connor Laud, 27, from Trinity House Lane, Hull, denied all

accusations against him at Grimsby Crown Court as he faced a charge of rape and two counts of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity - forcing his victim's family to the

ordeal of a four-day trial. But the jury saw through his lies and he was found guilty. Depraved Laud's arrest came after Humberside Police received a report that a child had disclosed

the harrowing sexual abuse they had endured. During his interview with detectives, Laud repeatedly lied and even tried to suggest his victim was simply "confused". He also denied

harbouring any sexual interest in children. Detective Constable Gayle Allwood, who led the investigation, praised the child and their family for their immense bravery, acknowledging the

emotional toll the investigation and court proceedings must have taken on them. GET BREAKING NEWS IN YORKSHIRE STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE Get all the latest big and breaking Yorkshire news

be described as sickening abuse to fulfil his only sexual desires". She emphasised that reports of sexual offences are taken extremely seriously and that the force will persist in

seeking justice for victims of such predators, reports Hull Live. She said: "Our specialist trained officers work closely with partnering and support agencies across the region to

support victims and survivors, as well as prevent and bring justice to perpetrators of sexual crimes of any nature. "When ready, we urge victims to come forward and tell someone, report

these crimes to the police and we will do everything we can to hold those accountable." Anyone affected by sexual crimes can call 101, or 999 in an emergency or if a crime is active.
