A "well loved and popular" police officer who died while driving along the M1 has been named and pictured for the first time. At 8.25pm on May 19, 2024, PC Jack Cummings, 27, was

driving north on the M1. He was heading in to report for duty before he would begin a night shift at the Firearms Support Unit, Carr Gate. However, while driving, the West Yorkshire Police

officer experienced a ruptured aorta - part of his heart - from which he sadly died soon after. While he was experiencing health difficulties behind the wheel, the car collided with the

originally from Bangor in Northern Ireland. The force wrote: "About 8.25pm, PC Cummings was travelling on the northbound carriageway of the M1 motorway to report for duty, prior to

commencing a night shift at the Firearms Support Unit at Carr Gate, West Yorkshire, when he suffered a ruptured aorta from which he subsequently died. "His car then collided with the

central barrier as he approached the entrance slipway at junction 41. Jack was a well loved and popular member of his team within the Firearms department. He was originally from Bangor,
