A West Yorkshire road has been shut after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle near Pontefract. Emergency services scrambled to Barnsley Road in Ackworth this morning (June 3) after being
alerted to a crash between a driver and a pedestrian around 9.24am. Two ambulances attended the scene and the pedestrian, a woman, was taken to Leeds Infirmary due to her injuries. The road
now remains shut as officers comb the area for clues about what happened. A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Police were called at 9.24am this morning to a report of a collision
involving a car and a pedestrian in Barnsley Road, Ackworth. The female pedestrian has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. The road is currently closed." Yorkshire Ambulance
Service spokeswoman adds: "We received an emergency call at 9.21am this morning to report a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Barnsley Road, Ackworth. Two ambulances and the
