pleaded not guilty to the murder of Veronica Corstorphine on October 3, 2019 at her home in Keane Street West, South Launceston.

In an interview with police in November 2019, Ms Maher denied that she had a physical altercation with her mother before she left for Western Australia on October 5, 2019.


Ms Maher, who had $5 in her bank account, said her mother had promised to transfer funds to her account.


Detective senior sergeant Bob Baker She said that when she looked there was no money there and that her mother was laughing at her.


"I was crying because I would be homeless on the streets," she said.


She said she asked her mother to transfer $2000, but she refused.


Ms Maher told Detective Senior Sergeant Bob Baker that her mother was in bed the last time she saw her.


The jury has heard that police allege Ms Maher smothered her mother with a pillow.

Ms Corstorphine's body was found in the bed on October 29 dressed in the same clothes that were visible on CCTV footage from Coles Express in Wellington Street on October 3, 2019.


"When did you last see her alive," Detective Senior Sergeant Baker asked.


"October 4," Ms Maher said.


She said she could not explain how her mother's mobile phone was traced to Western Australia.


Ms Maher refused to comment about how she spent $12,000 that was transferred from her mother's account to her own.

The jury on Wednesday heard from fingerprint expert Ian Fleming that Ms Maher's fingerprints were found on a number of wine cartons found in the recycling bin at Keane St.


On Monday the jury heard that Ms Corstorphine expressed fear that she may die in one of Ms Maher's drunken rampages.
