premiers to a five-goal win last time around but any chance of a similarly tight affair was blown out of the water in the first half as the visitors created 17 scoring shots to three.
Another six goals in the third term cemented the win and allowed coach Taylor Whitford the opportunity to get creative with the magnet board in the last.
One of three Bombers to kick a bag of three, Whitford said he was mostly pleased with his side’s effort.
“I thought we were able to execute most of what we were trying to implement throughout the week,” he said after the game.
“We probably weren’t happy with our last quarter - I thought we dropped off a little bit and gave Kingborough a bit of time again with the footy which was a bit disappointing - but overall a
solid performance.”
STICKY HANDS: Northern Bombers ruckman Alex Lee clunks a contested mark in his return to the side. Midfielder Josh Ponting was best on ground for the Bombers, while draft hope Rhyan Mansell
was important off half-back in his first game back from the under-18 championships.
Captain Brad Cox-Goodyer was his influential self in his 150th match, kicking two goals and winning plenty of the footy.
“I thought he was pretty good in his 150th – he doesn’t really play a bad game,” Whitford said.
“We talked about what an honour it is to play 150 – no-one else at our footy club who’s playing at the moment has done that so it was a really special day for him and his family.”
Whitford said staying unpredictable was his intent in trying Tom Donnelly and Dakota Bannister in new positions late in the game.
“If we go out with the same thing each week other sides are going to be able to read that and counter-attack, so if we have 22 players who can play in versatile positions that helps.”
The win marked the Northern Bombers’ 12th of the season and boosted their percentage up over the 200-mark.
