comedian’s brutally honest style saw him take home Best Show at the Sydney Comedy Festival 2015 and in 2016, he had the opportunity to cover the Rio Paralympics.

Mooney is no stranger to a Tasmanian audience and said that as a comedian, he used everyday events to inspire his shows. 

“One of the great things about stand-up for me is that audience rapport because it’s just you on stage and the audience either laugh or they don’t,” he said.

“Each audience is different and essentially it’s their show.” 

Mooney admitted that he has not had a trouble-free life, but in terms of writing new material, this had often been helpful.

“I’ve made a lot of fundamental errors throughout my life that I’ve been able to then turn into comedy,” he said. 

Mooney will spend the rest of this year touring and in 2017, will take part in a play – although he is keeping tight-lipped about the details.

He said that while he was nervous about the acting role, if it all went wrong at least it would be material for a future stand-up show.

Mooney will perform at Fresh Comedy alongside Gavin Baskerville, Andy Collings and Bill Starry at the Royal Oak Hotel on October 21. Tickets available from Trybooking.
