Commission estimates that up to 75,000 enrolled Tasmanians have voted in the double dissolution election.
AEC acting state manager David Molnar said 31,000 Tasmanians cast an early vote, and 33,000 had requested a postal vote.
The AEC also conducts hospitals visits.
“We’re estimating that around 70-75,000 people will have cast an early vote,” Mr Molnar said.
That equates to about 21.5 per cent of eligible voters, or 1 in 5.
The figure is up more than 3 per cent since the 2013 election, which saw 18.5 per cent of people vote early
Tasmania is still below the Australian average, and some areas see 30 per cent of people voting early.
Mr Molnar said it was trending upwards.
“You have to satisfy criteria to be able to cast an early vote – but those criteria are things like if you’re outside your electorate or working and can’t get to a polling booth” he said.
“In the end, it’s probably people’s lifestyles, a lot of people work.
“The trend is continuing that more and more people have reasons they need to vote early.”
He said it was becoming a “polling period”.
The AEC is also tasked with ensuring election advertising is within the rules.
The Liberal Party has used popular smartphone app Snapchat to advertise.
Mr Molnar said authorisation rules covered social media.
“The bottom line is, I would say to anyone, if in doubt authorise it,” he said.
The AEC has hired 2000 casual staff to assist at 265 booths across the state.
