Double triumph for knole park as old loughts & repton also win junior club super 6s trophies | england hockey

Knole Park HC secured a clean sweep of the 2022 Super 6s Girls’ Junior Club trophies as Repton’s U16 boys’ team defended their title while Old Loughtonians emerged victorious in the U18

Boys’ event. The four tournaments took place in Wolverhampton between 15-16 January, with 21 clubs from across the country represented in at least one event. Having dramatically beaten

Surbiton via a shootout to be crowned U16 Boys’ champions in 2020, Repton began this year's tournament in fine style by qualifying top of Pool A with two wins and a draw. They were

joined in the semi-finals by Cheltenham, with Surbiton setting the early pace by winning all their games in Pool B as Old Loughts secured the final spot. Surbiton’s run was to come to an end

though as they were defeated by Cheltenham, with Repton making the final once again by beating Old Loughts. Having drawn in the group stages, Repton put in a clinical performance to beaten

Cheltenham in the final and take the trophy back to Derbyshire. After suffering defeat in the semi-finals back in 2020, Knole Park’s U16 girls’ team was determined to go at least one step

further this time round. They laid down an early statement of intent, winning all of their pool games to finish top of the group, with Cambridge City also qualifying. Cheltenham topped the

other pool, while defending champions Repton also made the final four with a win and two draws. Their defence ended in the semi-finals though as they were beaten by a ruthless Knole Park,

while a late winner from Millie Ely saw Cambridge City join them in the final by beating Cheltenham. They couldn’t get revenge on a Knole Park team that had beaten them in the group stages

though as the team from Kent took their fifth victory of the day to lift the trophy. Knole Park were similarly imperious in the U18 Girls’ competition the following day, also recording an

unblemished record in the group stages to make the semi-finals alongside Surbiton. Isca topped the other pool, with Marlow finishing runners-up. The first semi-final saw Isca and Surbiton

play out a gripping 1-1 draw before the south-west London side emerged victorious in the shootout to book their place in the final. At half-time it looked like the other game may head the

same way with the scoreline between Knole Park and Marlow locked at 1-1 before the team from Sevenoaks took the initiative in the second half to win. They carried that momentum into the

final as well, with Amelie Allen scoring twice to record a 2-0 win over Surbiton and see her club win a second competition in as many days. In the U18 Boys’ tournament, Brooklands MU looked

like the team to beat after the group stages as they won all of their pool matches to book their spot in the final four, with Old Loughts joining them. Repton were also impressive in the

first round as they qualified for the semi-finals, with Surbiton the final team to make up the ties. And it was they who emerged victorious from their game with Brooklands, Matthew Hughson

scoring the final goal as they won 3-2. That came after Old Loughts had beaten Repton 4-1 in their semi-final, Harvey Edwards scoring a five-minute first-half hat-trick. Edwards then scored

the second for the north-east London side in the final, adding to Freddy Cooke’s effort, as they beat Surbiton 2-1 to emerge as champions.
