Here are some recent stories that show how parents are getting involved in education. ON THE GROUND IN DETROIT In April, I wrote about how a non-profit group was attempting to start a common
enrollment system for some charters and private schools in Detroit. A July 11 story by Beth Hawkins in The 74 recently explained what is happening in Detroit as advocates try to help
parents enroll their children in their schools of choice. GETTING PARENTS INVOLVED WYNC produced a story about a school struggled to get parents involved, even with a threat of a state
takeover. Reporter Beth Fertig explained what the Bronx school did to engage more parents in a July 1 story. WHICH PARENTS HAVE POWER? The Atlantic’s Casey Quinlan explored the issue of how
