department of teaching and learning. Ms. Meier, 74, has had a distinguished career in public education as a teacher, writer, and public school advocate. She founded schools in Boston and


New York City and has published a number of books, including, most recently, _Many Children Left Behind_. The NYU school of education has an enrollment of about 6,900 students.
