The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) of the UK ordered a website offering parents advice on vaccines to withdraw information about MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) jab after a post
claimed it could be linked to autism. Citing a 2002 study in which MMR could not be definitively ruled out as a cause of autism in children, Babyjabs.co.uk had said the three-in-one jab
could be causing the neural disorder in “up to 10 per cent” of children in the country. The group, which promotes single vaccines, also made suggestions that most experts now agree that
rates of autism in the UK are on the rise, and it is not due solely to increased diagnosis. One person complained that the claims are misleading and unsubstantiated, following which ASA
ruled the claim must not appear again.
