Truck driver surrenders after hit-and-run claims youth's life

The Ghatkopar police have arrested a truck driver involved in a hit-and-run case that claimed a youth's life on Sunday morning. His truck hit a motorcycle from behind near the Excel


Arcade building on LBS Marg, killing a 23-year-old man and severely injuring a woman who was riding pillion. The driver, Ajaykumar Mourya, 34, was arrested after he surrendered himself to


the Ghatkopar police on Sunday evening. According to the police, Sanjay Jaysingh Makwana, a resident of Sakinaka, and his friend Bhavna Patel, 18, a resident of Ghatkopar, were on a


motorbike which was hit by the truck around 5.30 am, causing Makwana to lose his balance and fall. "The truck dashed the motorbike with so much of force that Makwana suffered injuries


on his hands and head while Patel sustained injuries near her left eye," said an officer from Ghatkopar police station. "The driver of the truck stopped the vehicle and fled from


the spot." Makwana and Patel were rushed to Rajawadi hospital by locals and the police was informed. Makwana was declared dead post admission, while Patel is currently undergoing


treatment. On Sunday evening, Mourya surrendered himself at Ghatkopar police station. "We have arrested Mourya and have booked under relevant sections for negligence, rash driving and


culpable homicide not amounting to murder. We are questioning him further to know exactly what had happened," said Vinay Rathod, deputy commissioner of police, (zone VII).
