An 18-year-old girl jumped off a foot overbridge (FOB) at Bandra railway station on Friday, landing on one of the platforms and injuring her head and legs. An 18-year-old girl jumped off a
foot overbridge (FOB) at Bandra railway station on Friday, landing on one of the platforms and injuring her head and legs. She was under the influence of drugs once she decided to take the
plunge. The girl has been identified as Kajal Pandit Kale. “She lives under a flyover of the Western Express Highway with her older brother Raje and his wife Priya, who are both construction
labourers,” said Vijay Dhopavakar, senior inspector of Bandra government railway police station. He added that Kajal is a junkie who has been “inhaling whitener with other drug addicts
outside Bandra railway station for the past couple of years.” The incident took place at around 9.15am on Friday, during the peak hours. Kajal, who was walking along the FOB, suddenly jumped
off it, from a height of about 20-25 feet. She landed on platform 7/8, and sustained injuries on her head and legs. The GRP personnel patrolling on the platform immediately arranged for an
ambulance and rushed her to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra for treatment. “The police recorded the girl’s statement, in which she revealed that she jumped off the FOB under the influence of
drugs. She is currently out of danger and undergoing treatment at civic-run Bhabha Hospital in Bandra,” said Dhopavkar. He added, “Luckily, the crowded CST-bound Harbour line local on
platform 7 had left the platform just a minute before Kale jumped off the FOB. Otherwise, the girl would have landed on the commuters who were waiting for the local on the platform, and more
people would have got hurt in the process.” _@dayanand_kamath_
