The result of the primary conducted by the Congress in Latur Lok Sabha constituency has been declared and the winner is Dattatray Bansode. Bansode, who is the president of Latur Zilla

Parishad, won with a whopping majority over his nearest rival. While he polled 760 votes, his nearest rival, Mohan Mane, won just 80. And the third aspirant, Jayant Kathwate, got only 33

votes. Latur is a reserved constituency. In Wardha, the only other constituency in Maharashtra where Congress conducted primaries, Sagar Meghe, the son of sitting Congress MP from Wardha,

Datta Meghe, won by 46 votes. He defeated Charulata Tokas, daughter of former Maharashtra Congress chief Prabha Rau. The party, in fact, wanted to hold primaries in Yavatmal-Washim

constituency too. But it was opposed by Congressmen. In Wardha too the primary was initially opposed by Sagar Meghe's father and senior Congress leader Datta Meghe. "Some of the

senior Congress leaders had opposed primaries even in Delhi and these include cabinet minister in the Union government. The Congress high command then decided to hold primaries only in

constituencies where the party had lost," said a Congress office bearer.
