Congress did not take it kindly and retorted on Twitter, sparking a social media controversy Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Karnataka on Sunday A political slug-fest kicked in over PM
Narendra Modi's "TOP" remark at an election rally in poll-bound Karnataka. The Prime Minister asserted that farmers were on the "TOP" of his priority in Bengaluru,
to mean 'tomato, onion and potato', referring to these mass-produced crops that have often caused distress among farmers due to overproduction. Congress did not take it kindly and
retorted on Twitter, sparking a social media controversy. Playing on the word 'TOP', Congress' head of social media Divya Spandana aka Ramya tweeted: "Is this what
happens when you're on POT? Pot is often slang referring to marijuana." She also quoted a tweet from a TV news channel. However, the BJP reacted sharply to this barb, reminding
that Karnataka accounted for highest number of farmers' suicides in the country. "In Karnataka, more than 3,500 farmers have committed suicide under @siddaramaiah's watch,
highest for any state in India but speaking for them is being on 'POT'... Congress keeps it classy, again...," tweeted Amit Malviya. Malviya is BJP's national head of
social media and IT.
